Uttlesford is an area of Essex you will not find on a map but is named after the ancient Hundred of the same name to the north west of the county.
In 2001, in the Sunday Times, it was voted as the best place to live in England and members of the group will certainly agree with that! It is centred around the beautiful market towns of Saffron Walden, Thaxted and Great Dunmow with the National Trust’s Hatfield Forest in the south. For those looking for history Audley End house, originally constructed in the 1600s, is worth a visit and to enable us to jet away on exotic walking holidays abroad, Stansted Airport is also part of the area. If you have not visited this part of Essex before it is a wonderful place to walk, with tiny villages with thatched cottages and ancient churches, and is definitely not flat!
Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk are close by for walks, which are a bit farther afield and with great links into London, we sometimes venture into the capital for a city walk. We have a varied walks programme throughout the year, with midweek morning walks of about five miles and Saturday all day walks of about ten miles. Whether you live in the area or are just visiting you are very welcome to join any of our walks usually involving a leisurely pub lunch. We look forward to seeing you
